  • Talk your way through the grocery store! Name colors, shapes, and textures. Count out numbers of items. Point out things that are hot or cold, heavy or light, soft or hard.

TALKING
  • Talk while you are doing everyday things with your child!

  • Explain the what, the why, and the how of your daily routines (“I’m washing the dishes. I’m squeezing the yellow dish soap into the warm water”)

  • Be at your child’s level and take turns when you talk.

  • Always acknowledge your child’s attempts to communicate with you either with or without words.

  • When you give your child a toy, describe it, like “Feel how soft and fuzzy this rabbit is.” or “That’s a very shiny red ball.” You are helping to build their vocabulary!
